Welcome to The Arnold Chiari & Syringomyelia Information website.

My tips for natural pain relief.

These are my own personal tried and tested herbal remedies, please remember that they may not work for you. If in doubt consult a licensed Herbalist or even your G.P. Whilst there is quite obviously a need for conventional medicines, herbs and essential oils can be used very effectively in tandem with regular analgesics.

Lavender Essential Oil.

Neat oil applied directly to small burns instantly dissipates pain and also prevents blistering. Neat oil applied to either temples or to the base of the neck can effectively help dispel headaches. If you have problems sleeping, a few drops of oil on a pillow will ensure a good nights sleep. If you have an oil burner add a few drops of lavender to the water, the perfume given off has a calming and relaxing effect and also smells delightful.
Caution: Although Lavender Essential Oil is one of the few oils you can directly apply to the skin without using a carrier oil, please be aware that pregnant or nursing women should avoid the use of essential oils at certain stages of pregnancy. If in doubt, contact your local Health Food Shop for further information.

St. Johns Wort. (Hypericum)

Should you not wish to use conventional sedatives, then this plant extract is highly efficacious in reducing stress levels.

Herbal Teas/Tissanes.

For insomnia try Camomile Tea before retiring. For fast relief from indegestion or flatulence, try Peppermint Tea. For detoxifying your body, drink Chinese Green Tea.

Arnica tablets taken before surgery can dramatically lessen bruising post-operatively. Arnica gel works quickly and effectively to help reduce bruises and contusions. Gel formulation does not stain clothes and is absorbed instantly.

2. A couple of drops of lavender oil rubbed onto the temples also alleviates a mild headache.
3. White Willow bark tincture should alleviate a medium to bad headache take 2.5mls in water when needed. Willow bark is one of the plants that salycilic acid comes from , the natural version of aspirin so don't take it if you have an aspirin allergy or are taking anti clotting agents such as warfarin.
